Abstract :
This paper presents an analytical method for acoustic noise generation in switched reluctance motors (SRMs). The main sources of acoustic noise in an SRM are the vibration of the stator yoke, radial magnetic forces, dominant mode shapes that are induced by the vibrations, high frequency spectrum and incorrect geometrical variations at the design stage of the SRM. Analytical relationships can be drawn between the vibration of the stator yoke and the radial magnetic force, which can then be used to predict the sound pressure and noise power level at the natural mode frequency. Simulations to represent these relationships and their results have been done in order to verify the analytical methods presented. Proposed solutions are also presented to mitigate acoustic noise in SRMS.
