Abstract :
In this paper we present a simulation study about the impact of scheduling policies in UMTS release 5 high speed downlink packet access. In particular, we focus our attention on multiple access approaches to share HSDPA available code resources, like the traditional time division multiplexing but also as a new code division share. We investigate performance metrics like throughput and fairness of fast scheduling policies, with revenue based analysis. This investigation can be helpful to design a packet scheduler having a throughput-oriented but also a fairness-oriented criterion with respects to QoS constraints and improvement of provider revenue, which is still an open problem in UMTS high speed downlink packet access.
