Abstract
This paper describes the origin of electrical transients and their characteristics, addresses the coupling modes and effects on electronic equipment. It also reviews the international standards applicable to evaluate the withstanding capability of electrical and electronic equipment and recommends methodology to control the ill effects of transient over voltages.
