Abstract :
A new medium access control (MAC) protocol named common access channel distributed queueing (CACDQ) protocol is presented and analyzed in this paper. The protocol is designed for wireless slotted CDMA networks. In the proposed protocol, one of the available spreading codes is reserved for the common access channel (CAC) in which the access requests are sent. The remaining spreading codes are used for the data channels (DCs) in which the data packets are transmitted. By applying the principle of a distributed queueing protocol, two queueing subsystems are used for resolving the packet collisions. A practical random access mechanism for the access requests is also provided. The performance of the protocol is analyzed and verified by the simulation results.
