Abstract
The MPEG-2 multiview profile implicitly defined disparity-compensated prediction by using the temporal scalability mode to exploit the inter-viewchannel redundancies of multi-camera sequences. Unfortunately, prediction structures in the temporal scalability mode of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 are not very suitable for coding multi-view sequences. The temporal scalability mode of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards could also be too complicated and very difficult for implementation. The paper presents a novel scheme based on H.264 with the combination of disparity-compensated prediction and motion compensated prediction. Experimentations are carried out on a group of widely used multi-view video sequences and show the validity of the presented scheme.
