Abstract :
This paper describes a geostatistical method for the generation of an improved accuracy digital elevation model (DEM) through the fusion of airborne laser altimeter data and a stereo-radargrammetric DEM. The results show that the accuracy of the DEM (canopy-top and ground-level) after data fusion is significantly better than that of the initial radargrammetric DEM. For the canopy-top DEM, the standard deviation of elevation errors falls from 21 m to 14 m or from 25 m to 11 m, depending on the validation source adopted.
