Abstract :
First this paper compactly reviews the harm of flood disasters, especially in China. Second, the paper lists several traditional flood loss evaluation methods and analyzes advantages and disadvantages of them. Afterwards, a method of combining GIS and remote sensing technologies to make flood loss evaluation is presented. Third, a flood loss evaluation system using remote sensing and GIS is described, its functional components and characteristics are also presented in the paper. Finally, future developments about the system are addressed.
