Abstract :
This paper proposes service-dependent handoff algorithms for efficient mobile communication in wireless mobile IP networks. It defines two sets of algorithms tailored to specific traffic types, which makes harmless tradeoffs to achieve a high quality mobile communication. The real-time traffic handoff algorithm trades off some packet loss to eliminate perceptible delay, while the non-real-time traffic handoff algorithm trades off delay to achieve lossless handoff. To achieve this, the authors introduced the idea of parallel transmission of data packets and control packets, in contrast to sequential transmission of these two types of packets for proper handoff management in mobile IP access network.
