Abstract
The deregulation of the electric industries has created various challenges to utilities. In this competitive environment utilities are striving to reduce their cost to maintain a good position in the energy markets. Asset management has therefore become a topical issue. In this paper some applications based on IT to assist decision support for managing assets are presented. These applications employ non real-time data obtained from intelligent electronic devices (IED) installed in various substations throughout the entire power system to facilitate asset operation and maintenance. Their impacts and benefits are discussed. An application prototype together with some examples is given to illustrate the concept.
