Abstract
A new type of dye-sensitized nanocrystalline photovoltaic device with two TiO/sub 2/ anodes and an intermediate metal grid cathode was constructed. The anodes were separately sensitized with two different organic dyes absorbing light in the overlapping wave ranges and covering the visible light region. Such a combination of dye-sensitized anodes was used as a model system for examining the function properties of a fabricated device. The morphology of TiO/sub 2/ anodes before and after sensitization was examined using SEM and AFM measurements. The current-voltage characteristics and photovoltaic action spectra were measured under illumination from each side. We discuss the advantages of a fabricated tandem solar cell for alternative dye materials with narrow absorption bands.
