Abstract :
Over the last few decades, annual population growth in excess of 3% has been common placing the growth rate amongst the highest in the world. With the greater pressure on water supplies, this has been one of the main challenges to water resources development. Capacity building has been widely accepted for sustainable development. It consists of three basics and interrelated elements. Investment in human capital is what really matters especially in the developing countries and Nile Basin is not exceptional. The gap in education, training, research, and coordination between the different institutions working in the water resources management and development in the Nile Basin countries have considered the regional approach for their common water resources development and utilization seriously. The Nile Basin Capacity Building Network for River Engineering is established as a regional program to build and strengthen the capacity in the area of river engineering in the Nile Basin countries.
