Abstract
We investigate the beamformer design for coded signals when the channel matrix is known by the transmitter for a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel. A robust beamformer that minimizes the worst pairwise error probability (PEP) of coded signals is considered. It is shown that the beamformer and channel encoder can be separately designed to achieve channel gain (or diversity gain) and coding gain, respectively, in asymptotic cases (for large number of antennas). It is interesting since a joint design of the beamformer and channel encoder is not required.
