Abstract :
The main reasons for bad performance of cochannel systems working at high frequencies during a rain fading are: 1) H channel has stronger attenuation than V. 2) XPD is reduced (it isn´t a symmetrical function). By limiting the maximum power of V channel the global performance is improved: V channel lower power will not worsen global performance (extra power would not improve the hop length due to limiting H channel) and H channel will benefit from a reduced cross polar interference level that allows increasing the link length. The advantages are reduced cost of systems (copolar canceller isn´t needed), simpler installation and simpler application to already installed radio units when increased capacity is needed.
