Abstract :
Isometric tension and isotonic displacement generated by a solid polymer electrolyte membrane-gold (SPM-gold) was measured. SPM-gold was prepared by first immersing Nafion 117 to [Au(phen)Cl/sub 2/]+ solution and subsequently reducing gold particles on the surface of the membrane with Na/sub 2/SO/sub 3/. SPM-gold was cut in rectangular shape, and was set on an isometric and isotonic transducers (Nihon Kohden). Generated tension in isometric measurements and observed displacement in isotonic measurements showed linear relationship with applied voltage but a nonlinear behavior appeared beyond certain limits.
