Abstract
This paper presents the implementation of the first 2-1-1, cascaded continuous-time (CT) sigma-delta (ΣΔ) modulator. The successful realization is shown by measurements and a dynamic range of 80 dB is achieved. Special attenuation has been paid to the gain-error mismatch and a previously reported digital correction. Therefore, the modulator has been implemented on a circuit board to be able to test this nonideal behavior and to compensate for it. It could be shown, that cascaded CT ΣΔ modulators have the potential to be integrated as high-speed, high-resolution circuits.
