Abstract :
The decorrelation performance of a weighted spatial smoothing (WSS) technique is explored in this paper. The comparison between the WSS and the conventional spatial smoothing (SS) is made with respect to the condition number of the smoothed source covariance matrix and the variance of the DOA estimates of the smoothed MUSIC spectrum. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate that the decorrelation performance of the WSS preprocessor significantly outperforms the conventional SS preprocessor.
