Abstract :
An uncostly and effective approach for realizing high frequency, low power DC-DC-converters for very high insulation requirements and multiple well regulated outputs is presented. To achieve a high voltage insulation within a very small volume, a non conventional transformer layout is necessary. This transformer layout is best exploited together with a multiresonant approach and a distributed control strategy. The distributed control strategy performs extremely well without the normally necessary feedback of information via the critical isolation barrier. The converter with distributed control further enables a quite easy adaptation to different input-, insulation- and output voltages due to its modular concept. The principle of the control strategy is described and measurement results of such a converter are presented. A uncostly realisation with standard components is described, which is already used for the integrated supply of different new high-voltage IGBT gate-drives in ADtranz traction converters. The realised power supply itself can be operated at applications with voltages of up to 5.4 kV and efficiencies of up to 80% at 10 W output power.
