Comparison of the radiation properties of a sinusoidal current filament and a PEC dipole of vanishing radius

Abstract :
It has long been accepted that the current on a PEC dipole of vanishingly small radius approaches that of a sinusoidal current filament (SCF). It is shown that, while this is true for the imaginary component of the dipole current, a 10-20 wavelength-radius dipole retains a small, but significant, real component. It is also found that while these two sources exhibit nearly identical total and distributed radiated powers, their tangential power flows and IEMF behavior are much different, implying that their radiation processes are significantly different as well.
