Abstract :
The performance of the ESPRIT DOA estimation under two mutual coupling compensation approaches (open circuit voltage method and a proposed new method) was investigated in linear array monopole antennas operating at 2.4 GHz. In the new method, a new definition of mutual impedance is introduced to characterize the effect due to the mutual coupling between the array elements. The calculations of the new mutual impedances are based on an estimated current distribution. Simulation results show that the newly proposed compensation approach gives a much more accurate estimation of DOA than the open circuit voltage compensation approach when two signals are closely placed.
