Abstract :
Electromagnetic, seismic, and acoustic methods are prevalent for detecting oil reserve in rock formations. We have reviewed some modeling techniques for waves and fields in a borehole environment. The three dimensional problem still remains a challenging problem, and we are currently investigating the use of fast algorithms to model complex geometries in this arena.
