Abstract
Extraordinary progress in digital technologies (increased level of integration, drop in prices) during the last five years has made it possible to industrialize and use alternative electronic solutions instead of the conventional inductive type instrument transformers. Electronic solutions seem to be the answer for several types of applications and particularly for gas insulated substations (GIS). This paper lists the basic technical equations of this sensor, its principle and the influences of gas density drifts, trapped charges and bus bar eccentricity, and its advantages due to the concept. The tests performed are described, and some applications of this electronic solution in today´s substations are listed.
