Abstract :
This research mainly studies the performance improvement of the IEEE 802.11e. IEEE 802.11e is an emerging supplement to the IEEE 802.11 standard in supporting quality-of-service (QoS). It introduces EDCF and HCF, and the former is the focus of this research. In this paper, the EDCF parameters´ influences on the performance are studied. A new algorithm, called CW-EDCF, is proposed. This scheme dynamically adjusts the sizes of CWmin, CWmax and the CW parameter of the high priority traffic class, taking into account both the applications requirement; and network conditions. We compare it with the EDCF scheme through simulations. Results show that CW-EDCF outperforms the basic EDCF.
