Abstract :
In this paper, a novel phase conjugator is proposed for its use in retrodirective arrays. A balanced configuration, based on subharmonic E-PHEMT resistive mixers, allows good conversion characteristics without the need for biasing voltages. The behavior of a FET in resistive mixing function is discussed, to show the possibility of unbiased operation when introducing E-PHEMT technology. Results for the conversion efficiency and the interrogating frequency cancellation are presented. Finally, a four element array is implemented and characterized in terms of its monostatic and bistatic radiation diagrams, validating the proposed approach.
