Abstract :
The congestion control plays an important role in the effective and stable operation of ATM networks. In this paper, a novel robust controller design algorithm, based on Smith principle, is presented for ATM congestion control in which multiple virtual circuits are throttled at a single intermediate node. This rate-based congestion control algorithm can improve the QoS (quality of service) of ABR flow, which can guarantee the fairness, maintain queue length of a bottleneck node at a desired level and the robustness of stable operation networks. Theoretical and experimental results show the mechanism has the advantages of the fairness of bandwidth allocation, fast convergence and the robustness for networks uncertainties.
