  • Abstract
    On-line fuel injection system faults detection and diagnosis is a desirable function for diesel engines to ensure reliable operation. This paper introduces a fuzzy pattern recognition approach for assessing diesel fuel injection pressure patterns and detecting common fuel injection system faults based on the processed injection pressure data. A validation study indicated that this method was capable of screening out the characteristic parameters of the fuel injection system health condition. On-line diagnostic tests resulted in an over 80% of correct diagnoses on fuel injection system faults from 100 validation cases.
