Optical networking evolution in ITU-T and IETF-a reality check

Standards for optical control plane technologies are currently under development. There are four standards bodies working in this area: ITU-T, T1X1, IETF and OIF. Both the IETF and ITU-T are starting to work in the following areas: multidomain optical control plane architecture and protocols, protection and restoration architecture and protocols, GMPLS signaling and routing portfolio extensions to support ITU-T generic control plane architectures.
