Abstract :
The configuration of the three-phase 12/8 structure switched reluctance machine and the four-phase 16/12 structure switched reluctance machine are presented. The common schematic diagrams of the rotor position detector for the two types of the machines were also described. The relationship of the basic output frequency and the relationship of the step angle for the two types of the machines were given. The calculated equations of the relative average electromagnetic torque were also presented. The comparison of the two types of the machines was made at the same operational condition and the same volume in the respect of the output capacity of the machines. It shows that the output capacity per unit volume of the three-phase 12/8 structure switched reluctance machine is superior to that of the four-phase 16/12 structure switched reluctance machine at the same current density, whether the machines were operated as the motor or the generator.
