Abstract :
This paper investigates the transmission quality of a proposed space division multiple access (SDMA) configuration that employs a smart antenna that adopts vertical pattern and polarization control with terminal polarization assignment in an actual cellular environment in an urban area in Japan. In a sector cell system, we clarified that this configuration is effective based on an evaluation of the spatial correlation characteristics. We also found that the output carrier to interference and noise power ratio (CINR) of the proposed configuration is from 10 to 17 dB higher than that of the conventional SDMA configuration when the number of users is greater than four. The proposed configuration can reduce the antenna size from 1/15 to 1/60 compared to conventional SDMA.
