Abstract :
In upcoming communication systems, the coverage of a base station will decrease because of the high frequency band over 5 GHz. To expand service coverage, interworking two systems, an ad hoc network and a cellular network (or wireless LAN), is a reasonable approach. In such a system, some mobile users get service by depending on other mobiles´ packet relay. However, in this method there are power consumption costs to the relaying users, which is a serious obstacle for the multi-hop network. Therefore, we propose a revenue-cost model, PROG, a profit-based routing strategy, where the system compensates the relaying users for their power consumption cost. In this strategy, each mobile node can find a multi-hop path to a base station (or access point) which satisfies the profits of the system and the relaying users.
