Abstract
We propose a new handoff scheme for high-speed Internet multimedia services. The proposed scheme aims at avoiding an excessive packet delay during the handoff process, which may cause connection dropping. For this purpose, the proposed scheme adopts a priority packet scheduling policy for mobiles in handoff. We evaluate the handoff performance with the proposed scheme, by using a cross-layer simulation that covers from the physical layer to the Internet application layer. The numerical results show that the proposed scheme improves the performance.
