Abstract
The primary medium access control (MAC) protocol of IEEE 802.11 is the contention-based distributed coordination function (DCF) which adopts uniform distribution for backoff process.. We propose an analytical model to analyze the impact of backoff time distribution to system performance for WLAN. We also propose a simple and effective mechanism for backoff time distribution. Finally, simulation is employed to validate the effectiveness of the analytical and the proposed mechanism.
