Abstract
This paper proposes a new hybrid protocol for wavelength reservation in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. A simulation analysis reveals that the protocol, named as KRP-BRP-Threshold, has efficiency similar to destination initiated backward reservation protocols (BRPs) but its average set-up time is comparable to source initiated forward reservation protocols (FRPs). Hence, performance-wise, it is superior to either of them.
