Abstract
A technique with dipole antenna sensors is described for estimating the dielectric permittivity of soil with a homogeneous or quasi-homogeneous permittivity profie distribution with depth. A numerical simulation of the impedance of a half-wave dipole located above soil with an approximated and averaged profile distribution has been performed over the frequency range 350 MHz - 2 GHz. Main goal of the research is to examine whether antenna sensors could be used to provide reliable data on the complex dielectric permittivity of soil under field conditions.
