Models of scattering on hailstones in x-band

Mathematical models and appropriate software is developed to calculate scattering parameters, radar cross section and polarimetric characteristics of atmospheric hydrometeors. This paper presents the calculation results of hackscattering on ensemble of hailstones. Peculiarities of polarization parameters depending on statistics of shape, orientation, size, permittivity, and antenna elevation are analyzed in comparison with raindrops. Application of the results obtained to the hail detection and remote estimation of maximum size of hailstones are discussed.
