Abstract
Sphere decoders have gained attention for low-complexity optimum signal detection in multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) wireless systems. In this paper, a new faster sphere decoder by employing two-layer enumeration (TLE-SD) is proposed for exact ML detection in MIMO systems. In TLE-SD, search radius shrinks to the Euclidean distance between received vector and closest lattice point very fast by utilizing the larger diversity order provided by the proposed two-layer enumeration. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that TLE-SD leads to considerable computation complexity reduction compared with other sphere decoders.
