Abstract
We consider hard decision decoding (HDD) using a reliability metric of the received symbols. The effect of using 1-bit reliability information is analyzed in the decoder, and error performance can he improved at low decoding complexity. This provides a guideline for HDD algorithms or the optimization of quantization levels. In addition a determination method for the reliability information is discussed for non-Gaussian channels. Simulations verify the proposed approaches and show the enhanced performance.
