Abstract
The paper presents some theoretical results on the operation and path optimality of geographical routing; proposes using geographical adaptation to reduce the inefficiency of geographical routing; describes three adaptive schemes with different overhead and efficiency tradeoffs; and analyzes the benefit and cost of using adaptive schemes. The conclusion is that using adaptive schemes can significantly improve the efficiency of geographical routing with clear net benefits.
