Abstract
The paper investigates different ways of planning a DVB-T network for mobile and indoor services. It was motivated by the introduction of IP datacast (IPDC) as a way of offering multicast and broadcast services to mobile or indoor users. We initially focus on single frequency networks (SFN) planning. We have found, based on a theoretical network, a maximum value of the allowable inter-transmitter distance (30 km in our simulations). Concerning mixed networks of SFN and multi frequency networks (MFN), we obtain, for a desired coverage area size, the parameter of the SFN clusters. Then we examine the minimum reuse factor, K, to achieve the desired QoS. We also present some design considerations for IPDC networks.
