Abstract :
The paper discusses and implements an XML Web services system, which supports the networked interchange of traffic information. XML Web services are expected to be the fundamental building blocks in the move to distributed computing on the Internet. As an interchange format, GML (geography markup language) encodes the semantics, syntax and schema of geospatial and geoprocessing-related information resources. It can provide great benefits to utilize easily as an XML encoding format. The paper proposes a full coverage of interoperable traffic information services. It supports full system elements consisting of 3 different layers. A traffic information database layer contains road information including data for car navigation systems and traffic information updated in real time. A traffic analyzing server layer gets traffic information from the DB and handles it based on processing algorithms. A Web services interface layer receives users´ requests on the Web services architectures. For communications, SOAP protocols and WSDL (Web services description language) documents are used that can guarantee the interoperability of a system regardless of different platforms and service channels. Regarding the proposed server, contributory points and discussions are described. From these ideas, we are able to propose a prototype model for real geospatial services from an implementation viewpoint.
