Abstract :
This paper proposed a novel probabilistically adaptive resource reservation scheme in future mobile wireless multimedia-oriented IP networks. First, the proposed scheme models the mobile behavior of a mobile host (MH) as a semi-Markov process, and resources are reserved according to MH´s sojourn time in a subnet domain during a session in process. Secondly, we proposed an adaptive resource reservation algorithm. Based on the proposed algorithm, resources are reserved dynamically to be adapted to the fluctuated bandwidth by using the adaptive characteristics of the multimedia applications, e.g. MPEG4 video. Therefore, the quality of service (QoS) guarantee is achieved while resources are reserved in an effective manner. Performance analyses show that the proposed scheme achieves better performance than MRSVP does in terms of both the reservation time and the reserved bandwidth metrics.
