Abstract
The optimal receiver matches the received signal waveform to produce the maximum output SNR. However, estimation of a random waveform in UWB communications is extremely difficult. Any mismatch between the template and the received signal results in a significant drop in average SNR. A suboptimal solution, therefore, is to use a fixed waveform to match the input signal as much as possible. We address the issue of waveform design for this purpose.
