Abstract
The paper examines deployment strategies for transmitters in a Manhattan environment. It focuses on mobile communication in picocell environments such as public WLAN technology. After a general introduction to the architectural consequences of this new technology, deployment is analyzed in detail based upon the Manhattan grid structures. Subsequently, the forwarding node concept is taken into account and also surveyed from a cost perspective in order to prove its economic utility. Finally, some interference calculations are performed, which analyze and compare the presented scenarios.
