Abstract :
Revenues for the Hawaii ocean R&D industry were last reported in 1997 for 1993-1995 data, with accompanying analysis for the period 1980-1995. Annual surveys indicate sporadic performance between 1996 and 1998, with sustained revenue growth at an average 12.4% per year between 1998 ($88 million) and 2002 ($140 million). The sale of products and services derived from R&D efforts began to contribute to the value of the industry, shifting the State promotional efforts to a broader focus on ocean science and technology. Trends in subject area, sources of funding and performers over this period are discussed.
