Abstract :
Telecommunication service provision in rural areas is a very demanding enterprise, due to inadequate infrastructure and scattered settlements. On the other hand, since the rural areas are also developing, albeit with varying needs, telecommunications services also need to develop. In order to service such areas, we consider using an ATM network because of its capability to accommodate or combine voice, data and video communication in one network and reduce the use of multiple networks. We investigate the feasibility of ATM implementation in a rural area as a wide area network. In particular, we focus on different ATM classes of services
