Abstract
This work presents exploratory research designed to understand the link between process development and business models in the biopharmaceuticals sector. The characteristics and challenges of early stage biopharmaceutical development are presented together with observations based on new case studies of the linkages between process development links, business ventures and their management. Initial findings suggest that the approach adopted by companies in designing, implementing and managing its process development could significantly impact the success of a biopharmaceuticals development project. The paper concludes with a discussion of the implications for management practice and suggestions for further work.
