Abstract
This paper describes the realization of sound localization using a 2-loudspeaker mobile phone. Sound localization experiments on a horizontal plane were performed in seven subjects using HRTFs (head-related transfer functions) simulated by FIR and IIR filters. In the experiments, a white noise and the voice of a female announcer were used as the source signals, and the sound images at a distance of 140 cm were simulated in 13 directions at a interval of 15 degrees on the right-hand side of the subject. The experimental results could be divided into two groups. One group was that most of the presented sounds tended to be perceived as sounds from forward directions, and the other group was that most of the presented sounds tended to be perceived as sounds from backward directions, i.e., many front-back confusions were occurred. And, the results using the FIR and IIR filters were compared with each other. Then, there was little difference between both results.
