Abstract :
This paper presents a new mathematical method that is used in calibration of a recently developed position sensor based on continuous wave radar. The calibration is a necessary process to identify all the sensor parameters before using the sensor in measurement. This paper presents a calibration method that does not require information from a reference sensor, and thus can be used on-site. This method employs understanding in the corresponding signal geometry to obtain the sensor parameters. Because the particular radar signal has an elliptical shape in multidimensional space, it can be fitted to find the ellipse parameters. Then the parameters are transformed into the sensor parameter consecutively. This method was implemented on a physical system with satisfactory results.
