Abstract :
Double-pass L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier with flat gain and improved noise figure characteristics is demonstrated. It incorporates a short length of forward pumped EDF in front of double pass amplifier to reduce the noise figure. The amplifier has achieved a flat-gain output at about 34.2 dB, which is 14.2 dB higher than that of the single pass system with gain variation less than 1.3 dB at flat gain region from 1568 to 1598 nm. The noise figure varies from 5.0 to 5.8 dB at this region.
