Abstract :
This paper discusses the design of the quasi-lumped element superconducting oscillator operating at 1.7 GHz. The quasi-lumped element resonator consists of the interdigital capacitor parallel with a straight line inductor was used as a stabilizing element in the feedback type oscillator configuration. The resonator was cooled at the liquid nitrogen temperature whilst the active component was operating at room temperature. For a comparison, a copper quasi-lumped element resonator was used as a stabilizing element replacing the superconducting quasi-lumped element resonator. However, the copper version was operating at room temperature. The phase noise of both oscillators was measured and the quasi-lumped element superconducting oscillator showed approximately 40 dB improvement over the copper version.
