Abstract :
Software tools that simulate a battlefield environment enable a commander to evaluate different strategies and could assist in the selection of the best possible action to take. This paper discusses the different methodologies available for battlefield visualisation and simulation. Classical game theory provides a mathematical description to represent a conflict environment. Although they are highly useful, complications arise when finding solutions in a three dimensional (3D) environment. Using games theory and evolutionary programming, simulated armed units can be defined to behave in a 3D environment similar to their real counterparts. Discussions on new search algorithms that can be used are also provided in this report.
